Influence Consumer Behavior (2)

So what can a marketer do to gain influencer status?
Initially a market needs to understand the impact of group behavior on consumer behavior/ purchasing influence.
There are three categories in which consumers get influenced by; be it that they are a part of, want to be a part of and those that they relate to and can in influence buying decisions.

First group- this refers to an individual who have frequent contact with and they can influence a group during a decision making process.
Second group- This refers to an individual who have limited contact with and can be used as a reference during decision making processes.
Third group (aspiration group) - this is a reference to a group in which the individual has no contact with but had positive attraction to and often will make a purchasing decision based on what the group believe to be an aspiration gain.

Marketers looking to enhance their influencer status should do so considering the following:

-      Determine where communities are located: discover where the marketing decision and influence is within a certain community taking place on social media channels

-      Determine which groups/communities are appropriate Aspiration Groups become a part of a group that exerts influence, and thought out leaderships topics related to the marketer’s products or services. The common influencing factor within this group is not the typical consumer behavior, but is seen as more of an expert within the group thus trusted with marketing decisions.

-      Become a new member it’s considerably easy with online social media channels to become part of any group. Utilizing the right communication channels a marketer can become part of a continually increasing number of consumers' secondary reference.

-      Establish yourself as an expert: build a strong reputation and become a member who consumers turn to as an expert to influence their decision making process. Reference

To be an effective influencer with your social media channels, and to utilized them to enhance marketing powers, marketers need to identify themselves and what they are representing. Also, consider understanding the dynamics of a group so as to figure out the maximum potential that can be gained by being part of that consumer group. Ultimately transparency is key to influence consumer behavior.

Car Explosion Hype

There seems to be a message in Arabic circulating on various social media platforms with recommendation from the ROP stating that "... all citizens and residents are instructed not to fill gasoline to full. Due to high climate temperatures expected in the coming days please everyone not to use full gasoline fuel for thier cars, in this heat because it would cause an explosion (fuel tank). The heat could cause an increase in pressure with a full fuel tank which would cause a fire to ignite. This week, five fire incidents occurred due to this reason"

Someone it trying to save the full consumption before the weekend!

There is no truth to a spate of emails circulating throughout the country claiming that full filling of petrol tank in your automobile can lead to an explosion in high heat.

Just another social media hype...

Enjoy your weekend

Negativity in Social Media

There are times where as a social media enthusiast that I feel exposed to the general public, and come under pressure as to validate my thoughts, opinion and posts.  Generally I am a social person but I don’t like being pin pointed for saying or doing anything wrong. The irony is that I write a blog and maintain other social media platforms which allow confrontation or direct criticism to reach me. I took it upon myself not to remove or delete comments that may cause me to recluse from what I said or creating with this blog but there small defense mechanisms that I started using to not invest so much in what is being said.

Strange as it may be this is going to be a post on “How to avoid negative reactions on your blog”. Let’s start it off from a general prospective i.e. Companies.
Companies still seem to run a gauge of false pleasantness when interacting with visitor/ comments on their social media platforms. They are overly worried when receiving negative comment on their networks. I keep wondering why?!
Somehow it leads you to believe that they have a lot of “dirty laundry” and that they fear that it might be aired for the public to see, thus refuse to hear anything negative and maintain positive feedback about their company, product and their social media platform. If you’re not doing something right, wouldn’t you rather know about it?
Thus I share with you some ways to avoid negative comment through your social media channels, taken from a personal prospective and as a company looking to maintain a good image.
Options are:
Be mediocre – To avoid persuading visitors to generate negative sentiments, which might then be expressed on your social media platform, avoid conquests like the plague and concentrate on remaining steadfast in what you are doing.
Make your posts as bland as possible – by reporting little of relevance or interest in your blog, you will successfully be reducing the number of people reading it, which isn’t a good thing but then you know that those reading your blog are actually looking for the information and not the engagement.
Supply immaculate commodities – Make sure that your product lives up to the hype and that it actual fail safe.  This will actually keep you at par with those around you and maintain a positive image to your viewer or customers.
Avoid expressing an opinion – this could be a double ended sword since most people like to be opinionated and have a say in what they thing about what you’re doing, thus giving you great exposure if any disagreement is generated. If you’re looking to shy away from this negative aspect then by all means don’t state your opinion since more than likely there is someone, somewhere who would probably disagree with them. Stays focused on sharing information and avoid the risk of opening the channels for dialogue and discussions.
Now what I need to add to all this that I have come a long way from being shy and wavering, and thus still in the process of learning to be all that is not what I have mentioned in the points above. If you want your social media platform to work then do the exact opposite and that would do exactly what social media platforms are supposed to do for your from a marketing prospective….
Give you exposure and a direct voice to visits/costumers.

Oman Airport Expansion

Most of you would've witnessed the construction work going on to create the new airport, the project in itself is supposed to be completed by this year (yet to be seen).

What are the expecation of this new structure supposed to bring to the national carrier?

"...capacity of 12 million passengers annually, the new terminal building will have 29 boarding air bridges, 10 bus-boarding lounges, 30 remote aircraft stands, 86 check-in counters and 20 self-service kiosks counters, a second runway with a length of 4,000 metres (the original runway will also be extended to 4,000 metres) and a cargo terminal to handle 260,000 tonnes annually" source

Sounds impressive!

I just hope that they provide ample parking to go along with all the new animity. (MM there is hope yet) I was informed through the grapevines that they are actually considering to construct multi-story level car park (parking garage) area. Wonder what the charges of such a parking facility will amount to, since as I understand it, its currently not cheap to park your caar for long durtaion of time.

Thought? Impressions?
What do you think the parking situation is going to be like?

Mobbed Vblogger in Oman

Adam Saleh

ADAM SALEH...haven't heard of him? Then apparently we have been living under a rock according to the recent mob that he faced during his visit to Muscat City Center.

I have watched a few of his vblogs and only that totally stands out to me is when he slapped his younger cousin for accepting a cigarette which he initially persuaded the boy to take. That's when I stopped bothering about this particular vblogger.

Apparently the rest of the country would disagree, since he was greeted by a throng on teenage girls screaming and wanting to take pictures with him during a quick visit to Oman. I am assuming for the opening of the Kiplings store in MCC (assuming cuz the YouTube video showed him being surrounded by screaming teens in front of the shop)

Let me just quoting his interview to ToO "This meet and greet was the craziest one I've had yet. This was my first time being mobbed and I had to be escorted out by security. I was touched by the response of the fans."

Can I just say that I am not impressed.
Adam's vblog does promote positivity towards Muslims and Islam. The screaming teens would definitely not approve and consider him at a celebrity status.

@omgadamsaleh your always welcome to visit Oman but can we make without the teen-gaga-ness :) #aishelaqtta

New RO 7.5 million attraction at Seeb harbour to mark 45th anniversary of His Majesty’s reign

"Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) announced it is to build Oman’s first aquarium as a Gift to the Nation to mark the 45th anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s reign next year.

Work will start on the RO7.5 million Marine Fish Aquarium and Educational Centre at Seeb harbour this year and the complex will spread over approximately 17,000m2.

The futuristic building, PDO’s largest Gift to the Nation investment, will showcase the rich biodiversity, habitats and species found in the Sultanate’s waters and aims to appeal to both international tourists as well as Omani citizens.

There will be a range of features including specialised viewing tanks, interactive activities and guided tours. Another central aspect of the building will be a research division for all fisheries studies by Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries staff, universities and other specialists.

There will be five sections in the aquarium: World of Oceans and Seas; Coastlines and Seas of Oman; Fishing and Maritime Heritage of Oman; PDO Marine History and Operations; and Oman Marine Life and Habitat.

It is intended that the building will have a cylindrical viewing tower finished with photovoltaic panels to provide some solar and wind-power energy to the complex. It will be set towards the north end of the reclaimed land at the Seeb marina, facing the proposed Fish Market. As well as the main aquarium, there will also be a restaurant with sea view, retail space and a car park.

The official signing ceremony took place at the Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre (OGEC) in Mina Al Fahal (MAF), which PDO donated as a Gift to the Nation in 1995. The Company has a long tradition of marking every five years of His Majesty’s rule with such endowments and other Gifts include the Planetarium (2000) and the EcOman Centre (2010), the Public Knowledge Library (1990), which was handed over to the Diwan of Royal Court in 1996 and the Traffic Safety Institute (2005) which was presented to the Royal Oman Police." Oman Population- Playing up on numbers

In 2014, the estimated population of Oman is 4,013,391.

Let's paint a clearer picture...
"The estimated 2014 population of 4,013,391 is a sharp increase over the 2010 census of 2.77 million. Nearly 50% of the population lives in Muscat and the Batinah coastal plain northwest of Muscat, while 200,000 live in the southern region. There are about 30,000 people in the remote Musandam Peninsula."

And a little more specific "The largest city and capital is Muscat, with a population of around 800,000."

Let' Break it down even further with how the pie is actually cut "Many Omani are from Baluchistan and the Swahili coast, and there are about 600,000 foreigners, mostly guest workers from Egypt, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and the Philippines."

What does all this breaks down to? Foreigners presently make up about 39 percent of the Omani population of about 3.3 million, but they account for nearly 90 percent of all workers in the private sector, according to figures announced by the Manpower Ministry.

And the verdict is out..
"Oman has announced it intends to cut its expatriate population by 6 percentage points, or 200,000 people."

What does this spell out to you? thought? Would want to see the prospective from an Economist (Other Oman?)

Red Bull Art Dribble

The concept of Red Bull Art Dribble is simple and easy: giving students the possibility to design their own table soccer figure, and win a customized table. Every student has the chance to design the player of his dreams and make it real. The 22 best ones will be chosen in order to make a full customized table.

The 22 participants with the best design and creativity will be the gladiators of the final tournament, which will show the winner of the table. The teams will be made by the student designer and one of his friends. This concept melts creativity, soccer fever, and artistic skills Source

I dont know about you but if I was to be a student again I wouldn't give this event a miss. Its different and fun with the added bonus of playing a little bit of foodball. The art dribble is to be held in Majan College, Darsait on the 12th May click here to find out more

Social Common Mistakes

Every once in a while I like to surf the net in search of tips and learning points about my new obsession. I am  looking out to understand the social media concepts and approaches available. Thus I decided to share a post about the common mistakes that any enthusiast might be doing without realizing it.

Consider them as the social decorum of social media.

The Number ONE of the list is actually very simple and a general rule where its best practice to always respond to comments or to simply acknowledging that a person has made an effort to write something on your space. Imagine if it’s done to you in a real social setting, then now imagine that etiquette being the same online...it actually distasteful.

TWO on the list is overflowing. Social media is based on the interactions but there is nothing social about following a few 100 people online. If you want your platform to work for you then you need to work out a slow progression and interact when necessary. Its just like PR and marketing where you don't want to overdo the sales pitch and lose out.

This next one is more for organisation who hire a young graduate to run your profile. Thus point number THREE is about letting a new level employee manage your online platform thinking that you have actually dodged a bullet by spending less.

To put this in prospective think of it this way. You would think that a new young employee would be on-the- ball and with his/her over 2,000 followers on Instagram and even expanding exposure, but chances are s/he might not be the right choice. your presence is far too valuable to leave in the hands of someone who is new, inexperienced and lacks the basis of your establishments. Would you place your jewellery under your bed for safe keeping, or rather put it in a safe or bank?

Number FOUR is a no brainier in that you need to really know your limits at times, and thus its about maintaining more than one profile on various platforms. The tasks could be simple if you have the know how and it and easy mechanism but lets be honest how many of you out there have more than one instagram account, probably two twitter account and a number of pages on Facebook? I fall pray to this one too but then you need to understand the amount of time I dedicate to being online and managing this platform. Its not a easy task so lets not fall into it

Hmmmm... the above point sort of justified the next one. Thus number FIVE is about pretending that social media is FREE. I've said it before where anyone can open a profile over any social media application, that doesn't cost much, but managing (managing them well) those profile is the issue. It does not happen magically and actually takes more of an investment in time, energy, strategy and resources to get your money's worth. Any organisation be it small or big cannot ignore these costs when planning a strategy for their social media presence and strategies. In some shape or form you need to evaluate what is being delivered.

Point number SIX is a basic one where most social media profiles fall into. Its basically the laziness of failing to update regularly. In my interview I talked about being consistent in terms of the message you want to showcase yourself but its also vital to be consistent in terms of your participation. Its a tricky factor to maintain since there are time where you feel that you would rather fall off the face of the earth than having regular interactions and maintaining your presence. Something to consider when starting to utilise social media is that its a tool that needs to be interactive, communicative and engaging thus it suffices to say that you need to be willing to be an active participant.

Finally those enthusiastic to create a presence via social media need to keep in mind that its not something that would will shoot you to stardom overnight. Your ROI can be measured over a period of time whether it be on a business prospective or a personal one. Like all things good in this world to get the most out of social media is to have realistic expectations.

Cyber space is your oyster.

Oman FM Interview - Part 2

Oman FM - Interview Part 2
Here are some of the talking points mentioned during the interview:
What's the advantage of Social Media?

Social media is a tool that allows for the user of any platform to build engagement, generate dialogue and enhance general outreach to customers. It gives your marketing strategy a voice, due to interactions and personal aspect that cannot be achieved via print media.

Suddenly, you have a product, promotion or image that responds directly to the consumer without delay, and from a human/individual prospective.
Why a blog?
    Simply Exposure
Blogs are a great tool to utilise, since they allow to make your brand appear more regularly, foster a direct relationship between consumers and corporations, and a great way to engage your target audience.
You  have a platform that can "feel" and interact based on the interest that it generates.
What are your future plans?

I would like to believe that the sky is the limit, since social media marketing and advertising isn't something that's going to go away anytime soon.

I would like to enhance my knowledge and exposure to social media strategies and marketing activities. Where I can implment knowledge and methods to increase a companies methodology in using social media. Anyone can open a Facebook page, instagram account and have a presence on twitter, it is what you do with those platforms that actually can generate increased revenue and sales, plus create a branding image to your product.

There are no boundaries with social media.

Thank you Tariq Al Barwani for this opportunity and looking forward for future radio collaborations with 'Knowledge Talks' related to social media. I will also upload the voice recording of the interview onto the Aishelaqtta Vblog.

Oman FM Interview

Aishelaqtta is a social marketing platform which allows for organizations, small ventures, and local talent to portray themselves to the local community. As an integrated concept of social networking, it is where the outreach grants exposure to a broader spectrum of consumers.

As a prospect for business future of such a integrated platform Aishelaqtta is looking to expand into creating and establishing social marketing strategies for organizations, events, and start-up local ventures. As using social media can not only increase reliability and build your image in the virtual world, but it’s also effective in increasing revenues, and number of customers.

It was a pleasure and great experience to be invited by Tariq al Barwani to talk on Oman FM radio during his radio show ‘Knowledge Talks’ which focus on sharing IT related concepts and knowledge. I must commend Tariq for being very professional and reassuring me during the interview (started off a little nervous).
We had a 1 hour casual talking session, with callers calling in expressing their interest with the blog, social media and wanting to promote their work using Aishelaqtta as a platform.
Oman FM - Interview Part 1
Here are some of the talking points mentioned during the interview:
How easy is it for someone to have a presence online?
Its very easy for anyone to open up a blog, or any social media tool yet the key with having an online presence is being able to brand yourself on the web so that your online presence can be used to your advantage.
How can you do this?
  • Create an identity. What you do and who you serve to separate yourself from the rest of your those who blog around you. A web presence (blog/website) is another way to showcase yourself and what you represent.
  • Consistency is key. Sync your web identity on all platforms.
  • Content. You can have the best content in the world, but it might not give the right impact since you might be targeting the right audience. Identify your content and structure it so as to fit on different platforms based on your the presence you create.
How is social media important for businesses and the government?

The use of social media is not a marketing tool, but an interactive medium that allows exchange. Its not a static print issue, thus it gives everyone the possibility to talk to each other, exchange opinions, while getting rid of all the corporate hype and false promises typical of brand advertising.

What platform should a organisation or person use?

The platform you choose depends on what sort of a presence you want to generate on social media networks, you need to do a little research to see what best fits your audience so as to enhance your exposure. E.g. a Fashion blogger should enhance her presence using tumblr, pinterest and instagram yet not so much on twitter.

Organisations should use a platform depending of the audience they want to target, which will lead to more revenue and brand exposure that best suits the cooperate identity. Research time needs to be invested so as to determine the correct platforms, that would reflect the image that the organisation wants to translate online.

To be continued...

Summer is ON!

The heat is on at full force for the last few days, with high levels of humidity.

Must say that I definitely don't miss this weather, and cant help but wonder how the coming months are going to turn out. There are less and less activities on the agenda with the summer getting on the high but I do look forward to what might be on offer with summer packages from hotels, travel agents and even summer school programs.

I am sure would love to travel this summer but it seems that we might be stuck since we are moving house, and Ramadan is round the corner. Dreading the move in the heat!

Keep posted as to whats coming up on the blog, and the instagram account since I will keep updating on whats on offer. I heard from a little birdie that the Grand Hyatt have something great coming up in terms of a competition and prize this time is expected to be HUGE! so don't miss it.

Don't forget your sunblock and whatever else you may need to stay protected. Also keep hydrated with allot of H2O.

How are you planning to survive the summer heat?
Stay cool and safe..

Back to the Blogger World

I decided on a mini break, and since my kids were on Easter holiday from school it was time for me to entertain them. Though I did keep other followers updated via the Instagram account which is slightly more active due to its ease and access.

There is so much to catch up on seeing that I haven't posted for about a week!

I loved watching my notifications as visitors came by to participate in the "Hyatt Truly Thai Social Media Competition " where entries are considered to win a weekend stay in the Grand Hyatt, Muscat. Then there was Comex Exhibition which was running from the 7th of April, which was on of the top hits for the blog roll.

Things to look forward to in the coming week, and month....

Well, we can start off with Insta8Oman, which will be held at the Opera Galleria tomorrow! The whole event is structured based on the social media tool. If your interested to attend then all you need to do is head over to the instagram account, and take a snapshot of the invite. Simple! click here for post info

Another event on the agenda is the ever beautiful "Full Moon Beach Dinner" which I've posted a few pictures about via the instagram and will be held on the 15th of April. Click onto the link if you want to see last months picture coverage by Andy in Oman. I always enjoy seeing his detailed pictures about any event covered by him.

Finally I ended my week break by attending the Omantel Media Day where again I have posted pictures on the instagram account and a detailed post should be coming up probably by the end of today.

Hope that you had a great weekend, and will be able to attend the two event mentioned that will be running during the week. Its a not to be missed event on both accounts.

Well, seems my fellow bloggers went ahead with the competition, and I am one of the last ones to post it. Have been feeling under the weather for the last few days and thus getting online for a blog post was the last thing on my mind.

I'd say thats a sweet deal, and all you need to do is answer a simple question via responses/comment with your contact info.

The question assigned to Aishelaqtta is as follows:

How many times has guest Chef Supattra Boonsrang been featured at Marjan restaurant in Grand Hyatt Muscat?

  • 1 time
  • 3 times
  • 2 times

More info can be found in the hotel website
