Local Happenings: Global Entrepreneurship Week

A five-day event organised by the National Business Centre (NBC) will target start-up businesses, students, and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) owners this November.
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Oman 2013 will run from November 17th-21st at its premises at the Knowledge Oasis under the auspices of the CEO of Al Raffd Fund, Tareq al Farsi. During this week, Eng. Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry will officially unveil the National Business Centre.

Some of the events during the GEW will include an “entrepreneurship camp” on November 17. Workshops on “canvas model” and “building confidence for entrepreneurs” will take place on November 18, while workshops will cover “the dynamics of entrepreneurship” and “branding” on November 19.

The event will conclude with the “Entrepreneurship Game” and a success story from an Omani entrepreneur on November 20.

Through this programme, Global Entrepreneurship Week seeks to encourage SMEs to establish channels of contact with their local communities and develop relationships between small, medium and large business groups in Oman

Global Entrepreneurship Week  is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch start ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors—introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.

Anybody. Anywhere. Anytime. Organizations can get involved in a variety of capacities— planning local activities as a Partner, promoting the initiative as a Global Associate, or coordinating the initiative for a participating country as a Lead Host. Young people interested in exploring their ideas and making them happen can do so face-to-face and online—with thousands of activities happening around the world and a social networking Web site to find new ideas at the intersection of cultures and disciplines. Existing entrepreneurs can mentor aspiring entrepreneurs and share their experience at local activities. How you get involved is up to you.

Weekday update: Whats up Oman?

At times I don't understand when people say there are limited things to do in Oman, yet here we are with the start of decent weather and all activities are running at full force. I can totally relate that the country can go "dead" during the hotter months so I suggest you take advantage of whats going on now before it gets to be scorching hot again before you know it.

Well to sum up this weekends' activities there was the Royal Opera House Military performance as a highlight for good entertainment. I actually have images I want to share with you in the next post. There was the OAA Women's Day event, where the ladies could take their frustration and joy of driving out at the Go-kart track.

Then there was the opening of a little clinic catering to our toddlers; the Happy Kid Clinic opened up its doors officially to offer pediatric services to the community.

There were a few other little bits going on with Whisper of Serenity activity, Penned Thoughts poetry night, Build a Bear workshop in MGM and the Jabal Sifa event that would be available every Friday for a month.

You can find all these mentioned highlights on the Aish Elaqtta instagram account @aishelaqtta. Follow us to keep up to date.
