Local Enterprise: Raz Salon Spa

I have always been a regular visitor of Raz Salon, since they have exceptional services and products that always lives up to the expectation that is Raz.

Recently, I was invited by the owner to try out the Spa at the salon, which at first mention I was hesitant to visit since the  Raz Spa is situated on the lower ground of the currently existing hair salon owned by Shaymaa Al- Barwani, the space was once treated as a storage room filled with unwanted items and was very gloomy so you can only imagine how challenging it must have been to transform it.

My hesitation was definitely misplaced, since at the afternoon of my arrival at Raz Salon I was greeted by the friendly staff who led me directly to the lower levels to the Spa. I was impressed that this hidden little cove was nothing like I had imaged, and did not seem like it belong to the rest of the salon. The décor of the Raz Spa radiated peace and tranquility since the owners made every effort to show off the small space to its maximum potential. The colors and deco left you in no doubt that you are in a Spa environment.

The Raz Spa in itself was desgined by a local interior designer, who reflected exactly the image that the owners envisioned for the space. It comprises of a lounge area with shelves of various products and a TV, which opens up to a small niche allocated for short treatments and therapy. The use of tiffany blue was  integrated in a relaxing manner by bringing it together with arabesque design motif and white LED lighting. The combination gave emphasis to the modernity of the space. As you walk along the space you come towards two rooms dedicated for longer massage treatments and sessions, with equipment for facial included in the room. I thought it was ideal for those who want to utilize their time to get a two-in one treatment done without having to relocate to another room in the salon.



Tranquility was an understatement, since the Raz Spa blocked out all noise from the outside world, I relaxed into the small room which was fitted with two reclining chairs. My treatment started off with my feet being washed and lightly massaged to release any tension. After that I was told to relax on the chair as a blanket was brought to me and my foot reflexology treatment commenced.

As the therapist worked my tired feet, she asked as to the intensity that I preferred during the massage, and I slowly drifted into relaxation mode. I know that I was awake for most of the time I spent at the Raz Spa, but during those moments of bliss I was lost in a sea of tranquil relaxation, which took me a drift forgetting about the stress and strains of the work week.


I cannot fathom to tell you how much I enjoyed my 40min of bliss, and the much need peace that I felt while in the Raz Spa.

I knew that by the end of the treatment that I should've asked for a longer session and to try other massage treatments.Though I must say I am not worried since this is definitely a little cove of the Raz Salon & Spa I am not going to hesitate to visit again.

Local Happenings: OAA

The Oman Automobile Association (OAA) is having a Women's Day on the 8th Nov from 6pm-9pm. Havent seen anything about it expect for the one ad I have linked on the page. Also searched thier web-site not finding anything.

Showcasing: Microsoft -Omani National Winners

I had the pleasure of meeting three young Omani women, who are representing Oman in a splendid fashion!

No! I am not talking about their dress sense.

These young Omani ladies have represented Oman in the IT field via competing in the Microsoft's Imagine Cup; the world’s premier competition for student technologists, developers and aspiring entrepreneurs to create innovative projects and ultimately bring those ideas to market.

Team Thrizers created an app known as ReadX, which helps dyslexic children learn and lets parents keep track of their progress. The app was good enough to win a national Imagine Cup, a Microsoft-sponsored student competition; that earned Asya Al Jabri and her friends--Marwa Al Habsi and Safa Al Mukhaini, both 22--a spot representing Oman in the International Imagine Cup in July in St. Petersburg, Russia.

It just filled my heart to the brim to see young Omani ladies representing Oman on an International level and bringing something worthy to the local community that would eventually enhance the learning abilities of dyslexic children. There confidence and passion for what they had achieved was evident when presenting. I must say that they are in a huge way a inspiration to Omani youth.

Local Enterprise: Crafty in Oman

I cant have a blog page showcasing local talent and happenings without mentioning my very own social page on Face book!

 

As creator of the page I couldn't have done much without the admin assistance of +Mayya Al Said +Tanya Lerdkasem [ Heart made by Tanya]. The idea for the page came after participating with Mayya at another exhibition. It got me thinking of the less appreciated handmade talents displaying their hard work and creativity against commercial products.

Thus came Crafty in Oman (CiO) a social page on Face book that works as a gathering point for all homemade-handmade crafts and projects. The page also functions as a resource for the members in finding materials, local exhibition, connecting with others who share the same crafting skills and a selling/buying point for displayed projects.

Members register on the page, and share their craft project on the page, which allows other in the local community to know about and at times inspire others to start their creative juices flowing. We currently stand at over 1090+ members after only being in existence for slightly over a year.

We have conducted a few craft fairs for the group, and our members participate in various other local crafts and exhibition. We understand the hard work and dedication taken to produce something unique and creative, so CiO offers a specific targeted fairs in appreciation of handmade crafts and products, thus we do not allow commercially made items to share the same space in our events.

Look us up on Face book if you have a flare for making handmade crafts, we have various projects and work being displayed from crochet, knitting, sewing, clay, pottery, mosaic, wood work, handmade jewellery, quilling and many more.

Show casing: Zumba it with Asya

Asya Al Lamki, a lecturer at the Institute of Health Sciences who moonlights as a certified Zumba instructor.

As certified Omani female Zumba instructor Asya bring a combination of health and fun into her work out. She isn’t really a gym going person, but her drive to spread awareness about health and fitness through Zumba is her motivation to keep doing what she is passionate about. The whole concept of Zumba is that you actually don’t think your exercising, but it truth you are dancing and getting a work out at the same time.

I have witnessed Asya in action on various occasions and if you’re willing to give it a try or just to see what all the hype is about then you need to attend her special Women’s Day Zumba event on Thursday, 24th Oct @7:30pm at The Champ in Al Khuwair (located behind the Redtag and Masjid Zawawi)
