iPhoneography ‘Moments in Light’

Creating a new concept in Oman using just his Iphone; Raed Dawood opened his first iPhoneography exhibition at the Gallery Sarah.

The concept with iPhoneography is the art of creating photos with an Apple iPhone. This is a style of mobile photography that differs from all other forms of digital photography in that images are both shot and processed on the iOS device. It does not matter whether a photo is edited using different graphics applications or not.

The month-long exhibition, titled ‘Moments in Light’, displays 40 of Raed’s favourite images at Gallery Sarah, part of the Bait Al Zubair Museum. The exhibition opened on February 19 at 7:30pm with a ceremony held under the patronage of H.E. Talal bin Sulaiman Al-Rahbi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning.

Raed chose the title ‘Moments in Light’ because his work reflects the beauty of the everyday. “What are our lives but a collection of moments in light? Lonely, forgotten objects become the centre of my attention and I try to capture their presence for the single moment they are in the limelight,” he explains. Using only natural light and his iPhone, he has produced thousands of photographs ranging from revealing unexpected perspectives of familiar objects to capturing everyday moments of haunting beauty.
