The Children's Museum

An old treasure gifted by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to the children of Oman on 14th November 1990 on the occasion of the 20th National Day.

I remember my childhood filled with visits to this museum (nope you cant guess my age) and can still recall the joy and excitement of being through a journey of discovery. The Children’s Museum is situated inside two striking dome-shaped buildings in Qurum, at the base of the hill where Mumtaz Mahal /Leftbank are located. I haven't has the chance to take my children to the museum though they have been to it on one occasion. Its a national treasure that needs to be further utilised and marketed to the general public.

The museum houses a vast array of interactive scientific displays, aimed at children aged 6 to 12 years old, although younger children will still have great fun playing with the exhibits, even if they can’t yet fully understand the science that is being demonstrated.

Most of the exhibits are hands-on learning tasks, which demonstrate various scientific concepts. Managed and run by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture the Children’s Museum, Oman is open from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays and from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturdays.

My fellow blogger Andy in Oman wrote a post back in 2011 featuring various pictures of the Children's Museum.

When your stuck thinking what to do during the weekend why not consider a visit to the Children' Museum. I think I will be taking my children for a visit soon.

  1. Ha that's funny I never knew what was in that funny dome shaped building, I never thought that it would be a children's museum. I might have to borrow someone's kid to take so I can check it out.
