Local Happenigs: Shangri-la 5m Cake


Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa baked the largest cake in the country, measuring five metres by two metres, to mark Oman’s 43rd National Day. A team of eight expert pastry chefs at Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa baked the largest strawberry peach sponge cake in the country.
The 10sq m cake was made in four days. It used around 43 ingredients (to mark the 43rd anniversary), including 4,343 eggs, 434.3kg of sugar, 434.3kg of flour, 100kg of butter, 150kg of peaches, 110kg of strawberries, 200kg of icing and 43kg of Omani chocolate ¨C for a castle sculpture which was placed in the centre of the cake.
