Local Happenings: New Art Gallery; Stal

Stal Gallery, opened this week with an exhibition by a group of leading Arab artists. It inaugural exhibition, ‘Reflections’ witnessed the work of nine prominent Arab artists from the Sultanate and neighbouring countries.

Located in Madinat Sultan Qaboos, the gallery is funded by the Al Serkal family from Dubai, who are big supporters of the arts, while here in Oman the idea was conceived by artist Hassan Meer, who was passionate in advocating the project.

The Al Serkal Group, UAE has long been a leader in supporting the arts, with projects like Alserkal Avenue which provides a framework for different creative communities to foster international dialogue and cultural exchange. Today, Alserkal Avenue is known as a go-to place for art exhibition openings, workshops, seminars, young collectors auctions and community events in the region.

To the art community in Oman, the addition of a new gallery is an important event as there is a growing number of artists who need space to showcase thier work. This will help them establish themselves in the market, and promote thier work in an additional allocated designation.
